The Ford Expedition Max Is Worth It for the Extra Space

Available Cargo Space for Ford Expedition

You can look at the Ford Expedition and quickly realize it offers ample cargo room based solely on the model’s size. When it comes to actually storing cargo, you have a lot of versatility to work with. Plus, there are two notable sizes the model comes in: the regular Expedition and the Expedition MAX.

When the second and third rows are in use, the Ford Expedition MAX can store upwards of 36 cubic feet of cargo room in the trunk. As the third row gets folded down, the number climbs to 79.6 cubic feet. Finally, with the second and third rows flat, there’s 121.5 cubic feet of cargo room to work with.

To summarize, the Expedition MAX offers: 36 cubic feet of cargo room behind the third row 79.6 cubic feet of cargo room behind the second row 121.5 cubic feet of cargo room behind the first row If you choose the regularly sized Expedition, you can expect the following storage space: 20.9 cubic feet of cargo room behind the third row 63.6 cubic feet of cargo room behind the second row 104.6 cubic feet of cargo room behind the first row

With this expanded space, you should be able to fit about 15 suitcases. If you are maximizing your cargo volume, you should be able to fit 26 suitcases.

How does the Ford Expedition’s trunk space compare to other SUVs?

The cargo space of a Ford Expedition is pretty good compared to other SUVs. Its cargo volume is less than the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe. It offers more cargo volume than the 2022 Nissan Armada and the 2022 Kia Telluride. Also, it features more cargo space with the third row up than the 2022 Toyota Sequoia, yet offers less cargo space with the rear seats down.MORE: The top 10 cheapest SUVs to insure

What makes the Ford Expedition Max different

The Ford Expedition Max is a foot longer than the regular Expedition. It can seat up to eight riders, and even taller passengers will be comfortable in the third row for extended trips. Both Expeditions have standard cloth seats, with unique options like quilted leather in the higher trims.

The Expedition Max is the clear winner of the two when it comes to cargo capacity. It has over 121 cubic feet of space with the passenger rows folded down and 36 cubic feet with all seats in use. Folding down the third row will free up almost 80 cubic feet of space, plenty of room for several large suitcases.

Expedition Max Exterior

A far more modern and assertive front end denominates the Expeditions improvements and changes for 2022. It sports new LED wrap-around headlights that merge with the revised Twin Spar grille. That new maw is underscored by a revised lower fascia and two flanking air dams. Ford has also slightly altered the Expeditions tailgate design and the taillights to match the more modern and refined look. A panoramic vista roof is included from the King Ranch trim.

18-inch wheels are standard on base models while higher up in the range, 20-inch alloys fill the arches. The King Ranch and Platinum models have 22-inch wheels as standard, however, to maximise on the look of bold style.
