Cargo Space Measurements for the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E

How much space is there?

As you’d expect from a car designed for Americans, the Mustang Mach-E has plenty of room up front. The seats are comfortable and accommodating, while elbow and knee room is abundant.

There’s a big space under the huge infotainment screen with a wireless charger and additional open storage underneath. A large cubby is situated under the armrest, the latter only having two positions – up or down.

The door pockets could be a bit bigger, if we’re honest, but that might be down to space constraints due to the car’s floor being full of batteries.

Those in the back are well served for room and there’s no transmission tunnel to rob footspace from the middle passenger. Tall people might find the elegantly shaped roofline eats into vertical inches, but otherwise the Mach-E is well-equipped for transporting five.

A panoramic sunroof is on offer too. This doesn’t cut that much into headroom and allows more light to seep in. We reckon it’s worth the additional money.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The 2022 Mustang Mach-E is available with a wide array of driver-assistance technology. Key safety features include:

  • Available forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking
  • Available blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert
  • Available lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist


Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The Mustang Mach-E’s battery is located under the floor of the car, which allows for maximum cargo and passenger space. Unlike its exterior, the inside of the Mach-E has little in common with the regular Mustang. Its streamlined dashboard hosts an attractive digital gauge cluster and is dominated by a huge vertically mounted touchscreen. A floating, flip-up armrest on the center console allows a purse or other items to be stored between the front-seat passengers. There are also many slick features that include customizable ambient interior lighting, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, wireless charging, a panoramic sunroof, and more. The front trunk is made of durable plastics that can be rinsed and then drained, which allows storing ice and messy things. The Mach-E has 29 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, and up to 60 with the back seats folded.

Leg room, head room passenger space

Driver and passenger space throughout the Mach-E is excellent, with good headroom for all occupants and the ability to carry five adults in decent comfort. The long wheelbase means that legroom is particularly good in the back, even for taller passengers.

How safe is it?

  • Not tested by Euro NCAP yet
  • Lots of active driver tech
  • Over-the-air updates too

Caveat-time – the Mach-E has no official Euro NCAP score yet so it’s hard to say exactly how safe this car will be, however, we can comment on the suite of driver assist kit available.

None of this is ground-breaking but all of the semi-autonomous options are present and correct, which is encouraging:

Plus, most excitingly, the Mach-E is capable of being updated over-the-air, so tweaks or additions to this list can be installed even after purchase.
